Tour Overview

This five-day bush-and-beach escape is designed for travelers who crave both the raw energy of the Maasai Mara and the restorative calm of Kenya’s North Coast. Instead of choosing between safari and shoreline, you move seamlessly from big cats and elephants to warm Indian Ocean waters, crafted with a premium, conservation-aware touch throughout. The itinerary blends road and air travel for comfort and efficiency, giving you more time in the places that matter and less time worrying about logistics.

Your journey begins in Nairobi, where you are met by an Expera Adventures representative and driven to Wilson Airport for a flight into the Maasai Mara. You spend the first two days in a carefully selected camp or lodge positioned to offer excellent game viewing while supporting local conservancies. Twice-daily game drives introduce you to the Mara’s famed landscapes and wildlife: lions lounging in the shade, cheetahs scanning the horizon, elephants crossing river valleys, and towering giraffes browsing acacias. Guides focus on ethical wildlife viewing, storytelling about the ecosystem, and opportunities to appreciate both marquee animals and the quieter rhythms of the savannah.

Midway through the trip, you transition from plains to coast, flying from the Mara to Mombasa and then transferring to a beach hotel on the North Coast around Nyali or Bamburi. Here, the tone of the journey shifts. Instead of scanning the horizon for predators, you wake to the sound of waves and spend your days walking sandy beaches, swimming in warm seas, or relaxing by the pool. Your accommodation is chosen for its comfort, service, and responsible tourism practices, offering you the benefits of an all-inclusive or full-board stay without losing the sense of place that makes Kenya’s coastline unique.

The North Coast portion of the itinerary is unhurried by design. It allows you to decompress after the intensity of safari while still engaging with the local environment. You might take a guided visit to nearby marine parks, go snorkeling on coral reefs, or stroll through historic Mombasa to learn about the cultural crossroads that have shaped this part of the world. Evenings invite you to sample coastal cuisine featuring fresh seafood, coconut, and Swahili spices, all enjoyed in relaxed beachfront settings that celebrate the fusion of African and Indian Ocean influences.

Throughout the five days, Expera Adventures manages the logistics so the journey feels continuous rather than fragmented. Flights, transfers, game drives, and hotel arrangements are bundled into a coherent plan, and you have a single point of contact for any adjustments or preferences. If you want more time in the Mara or an extra night on the coast, the itinerary can be customized. The trip is ideal for couples, small groups, and families who value premium touches but are also conscious of how their travels intersect with conservation and coastal ecosystems.

By pairing the Maasai Mara with the North Coast, this itinerary reflects a modern approach to Kenyan travel: one that recognizes that the country’s magic lies not only in its wildlife, but also in its layered cultures, marine environments, and the simple pleasure of stepping from red earth to white sand within a single, thoughtfully curated experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, this itinerary is designed to give you two full safari days and two coastal days with minimal transit friction. It is ideal for guests with limited time who still want both experiences, and can be extended if you prefer a slower pace.

The itinerary runs year-round. The Mara offers strong wildlife viewing in all seasons, while the coast is warm throughout the year. Many guests prefer June to October and December to March for generally drier conditions and pleasant beach weather.

This package works well for families, though safari drives can be tiring for very young children. We usually recommend it for children aged 6 and above and can arrange private vehicles, flexible schedules and family rooms at both safari and beach properties.

The itinerary is rated easy. Most activities are vehicle-based or relaxed. You should be comfortable with short walks on uneven ground at camp, entering and exiting vehicles, and casual swimming or snorkeling if you choose those coastal options.

We select premium tented camps or lodges in the Mara with strong guiding standards and conservation credentials, and comfortable beach resorts on the North Coast that offer quality service, good food and responsible coastal practices.

Yes, the itinerary is fully customizable. You can add nights in either location, upgrade to more exclusive camps or boutique beach properties, or adjust the balance depending on whether your priority is wildlife or ocean relaxation.

Most coastal excursions, such as marine park visits, boat trips and Mombasa city tours, are optional and not included in the base price. We can add them at cost once we understand your interests and comfort levels.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Follow your journey through 5 incredible days of adventure.

1

Arrive Nairobi and Fly to Maasai Mara

Approx. 230 km by air from Nairobi to Maasai Mara 1–2 hours of game viewing transfer plus 2–3 hours afternoon drive
You are met on arrival in Nairobi or at your city hotel and transferred to Wilson Airport for your flight to the Maasai Mara. The short journey crosses the Great Rift Valley before you land at a bush airstrip, where your Expera Adventures guide meets you with a 4x4 safari vehicle. On the drive to camp, your first game viewing begins as you cross open plains and riverine woodland, often encountering antelope, zebra, and possibly predators en route. After settling into your tented camp or lodge and enjoying lunch, you head out on an afternoon game drive to explore the surrounding conservancy or reserve, getting a feel for the terrain and the wildlife rhythms.

As the sun drops, you return to camp for sundowners and a freshly prepared dinner. The evening is spent around the fire or in the lounge, listening to the sounds of the bush and being introduced to the guiding team’s approach to conservation and community partnerships. You overnight in the Mara, ready for a full day of safari tomorrow.
Activities: Private transfer from Nairobi airport or hotel to Wilson Airport
Scheduled flight from Nairobi to Maasai Mara airstrip
Road transfer and introductory game drive en route to camp
Afternoon game drive in the Mara ecosystem

Full Day Safari in Maasai Mara

Variable game drive routing within Maasai Mara ecosystem 4–6 hours of combined game drives over the day
This day is dedicated to exploring the Maasai Mara in depth. After an early breakfast, you set out for a morning game drive, timing your route to coincide with peak wildlife activity. Depending on the season and conditions, you may visit key areas for big cats, track elephants along river lines, or focus on less-visited parts of the conservancy for quieter sightings. Your guide interprets behaviors and ecological relationships, from the dynamics of lion prides to the roles of smaller species in the ecosystem.

You return to camp for lunch and a short rest, then head out again in the afternoon for a second game drive. The pace is flexible, allowing time to stop, watch, and absorb the landscape rather than rushing between sightings. If conditions allow, you might end the day with a scenic sundowner at a viewpoint overlooking the plains. Dinner is served back at camp, and you spend your second night in the Mara, with time to discuss the day’s encounters and how tourism supports the local conservancies you are visiting.

You then board a flight back to Nairobi, connect to your onward flight to Mombasa, and arrive on the coast by early to mid-afternoon. At Mombasa, an Expera Adventures representative meets you for a private road transfer to your beach hotel on the North Coast, typically in the Nyali or Bamburi area.

Check in, freshen up, and take your first walk along the beach as the tide shifts and the light softens over the Indian Ocean. The afternoon is left open for swimming, relaxing by the pool, or simply unwinding after your days on safari. Some guests prefer a slower pace: swimming in the warm ocean, reading under palm trees, and enjoying drinks by the pool. Others opt for optional excursions, such as visiting a marine park for snorkeling, joining a glass-bottom boat trip, or taking a guided visit into Mombasa to see historic sites and markets.

Lunch is served at the resort, and the afternoon continues at your chosen pace. As the sun sets, you may stroll along the beach or simply watch the changing colors from the hotel terrace.
