Safari Packing Checklist
Everything you need for a comfortable East African safari — pack light, in soft-sided luggage, and in neutral colors.
Clothing
- Neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, brown, beige)
- Lightweight, breathable fabrics
- Long-sleeve shirts and trousers (sun & insect protection)
- A warm fleece or jacket for early-morning game drives
- Comfortable casual wear for evenings
- Swimwear (many lodges have pools)
Footwear & Accessories
- Comfortable closed walking shoes
- Sandals for relaxing at camp
- Wide-brimmed sun hat
- Polarized sunglasses
- Lightweight scarf or buff for dust
Health & Toiletries
- Sunscreen (SPF 30+)
- Insect repellent (DEET-based)
- Personal medications and prescriptions
- Malaria prophylaxis (as advised by your doctor)
- Basic first-aid items and hand sanitizer
- Lip balm and moisturizer for the dry climate
Documents & Money
- Passport (valid 6+ months) and visa/eVisa
- Travel insurance documents
- Yellow fever certificate (if required for your route)
- Flight tickets and printed itinerary
- Some USD cash for tips and extras
- Credit/debit card
Gear & Electronics
- Camera with zoom lens, spare batteries and memory cards
- Binoculars
- Power bank and a universal adapter (Type G in East Africa)
- Headlamp or small torch
- Reusable water bottle

- Lightweight daypack for game drives
- Travel pillow for longer transfers
- Notebook or wildlife field guide
- Snacks for the road
- Soft-sided duffel bag (required for light-aircraft transfers)
