Tour Overview

For those of us based in Kenya, the Mara can feel familiar, but this 3-day fly-in escape offers a chance to rediscover its magic without the long drive from Nairobi.

This short but immersive Masai Mara fly-in safari is designed for travellers who value time, comfort and meaningful wildlife encounters. By flying directly into the reserve from Nairobi, you avoid long transfer days and arrive rested and ready for your first game drive in one of Africa’s most productive wildlife ecosystems. From the air, the patchwork of acacia-dotted plains and meandering rivers offers your first hint of the vastness you are about to explore. Upon landing, your private guide and vehicle are waiting at the airstrip. Over the next two days, you will follow fresh tracks at dawn, scan riverbanks for big cats and elephants, and linger at sightings without pressure to rush. Expera Adventures works with a curated collection of intimate camps set in wildlife-rich private conservancies or quieter corners of the reserve, where off-the-beaten-track routes and fewer vehicles create a more authentic, low-impact experience. Your tent or suite balances understated luxury with environmental responsibility, often using solar power and water-saving systems, so your comfort supports conservation rather than competing with it. Game drives are kept flexible and personalised. Early mornings often begin with a gentle wake-up, coffee delivered to your veranda, and the soundtrack of the bush before sunrise. You then head out in an open or large-windowed 4x4, guided by a professional who understands both the land and the behaviour of its animals. This is prime Big Five country, but your guide will also introduce you to the smaller stories of the savannah: the social world of zebras, the engineering of termite mounds, and the subtle signs that reveal predators nearby. When conditions allow, you may stay out through mid-morning with a picnic breakfast, maximising time on the plains. Afternoons are deliberately slower. After a fresh, locally inspired lunch and a few leisurely hours to swim, read, or simply watch wildlife passing near camp, you set out for an extended sunset drive. This is often the best time to see lions becoming active, hippos emerging from rivers, and elephants lazily crossing open ground in golden light. Sundowner drinks in a scenic spot are a highlight, and your guide will find a quiet location where you can absorb the scale and silence of the Mara with minimal disturbance to wildlife. Throughout your stay, there is a gentle but consistent emphasis on conservation. Many of the camps we use contribute bed-night levies directly to habitat protection and anti-poaching initiatives, and they partner with local Maasai communities through employment, education and grazing agreements that keep wildlife corridors intact. You will have the chance to hear these stories first-hand, either from camp staff or, subject to timing and interest, during an informal visit to a nearby community project that prioritises dignity and mutual learning over performance. On your final morning, you can opt for one last early game drive or enjoy a relaxed breakfast overlooking the plains before your short flight back to Nairobi. The timing works well for onward connections to the Kenya Coast, making this an ideal safari component paired with time in Diani, Watamu or Malindi. In just three days, you will have experienced a concentrated, high-quality safari that respects both your schedule and the landscape that makes the Masai Mara one of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations. This itinerary is fully customisable. We can add extra nights in the Mara, arrange a private vehicle for ultimate flexibility, include a sunrise hot-air balloon flight, or connect you directly on to coastal beaches or other Kenyan parks such as Amboseli or Samburu. With Expera Adventures, you are not choosing an off-the-shelf package, but a crafted introduction to East Africa’s wild heart, delivered with professional guiding, reliable logistics, and a clear commitment to conservation-aware travel.

Planning your trip from Kenya

This immersive fly-in safari is designed for the discerning Kenyan traveller who values time and comfort. While the drive to the Masai Mara is a classic journey, this escape swaps the long hours on the road for a scenic 45-minute flight from Wilson Airport, getting you from the city to the heart of the savannah in time for an afternoon game drive on your first day.

Upon landing at a bush airstrip, your dedicated guide and private-use vehicle await. This isn't the typical Mara experience of racing between sightings. We partner with a curated selection of small, eco-conscious camps located in quieter corners of the main reserve or, preferably, in exclusive private conservancies. This means fewer vehicles, more flexible game drive schedules, and the opportunity for unique activities like night drives or guided walks that are not permitted in the National Reserve itself. It’s a more intimate and authentic way to experience this incredible ecosystem.

Over two full days, your safari is tailored to you. We can follow the Big Five, or spend an hour watching a lesser-known species. Early mornings begin with coffee on your private veranda as the bush awakens, followed by a game drive in the crisp morning air. Afternoons are for relaxing by the pool or enjoying the views from camp before heading out again as the light softens, culminating in sundowners at a spectacular viewpoint. This is the Mara you’ve dreamed of – vast, wild, and deeply peaceful.

The camps we select offer a brand of understated luxury that complements the natural surroundings. Think spacious tented suites with proper beds and ensuite bathrooms, gourmet meals made with fresh local ingredients, and warm, personal service. These properties are also deeply committed to conservation and community, operating on solar power and contributing directly to the Maasai landowners, ensuring your stay has a positive impact on the land and its people.

Perfect for a special anniversary, a birthday celebration, or simply a well-deserved weekend break, this trip offers a concentrated dose of wilderness and relaxation. On your final morning, enjoy one last game drive before your flight back to Nairobi, arriving with plenty of time for your evening plans. It is the ultimate hassle-free way to experience our country's most famous natural treasure.

Visa & Entry

As a Kenyan citizen or resident travelling domestically, no visa is required. You will, however, need to carry a valid form of national identification, such as your National ID card or passport, for the flight check-in and park entry.

Flights & Connections

Your safari includes convenient return flights from Nairobi's Wilson Airport direct to a Masai Mara airstrip. The flight is a scenic journey of about 45 to 60 minutes, saving you the 5-6 hour drive and maximising your time on safari.

Health, Climate & Packing

While you're familiar with the local climate, remember that mornings and evenings in the Mara are significantly cooler than in Nairobi or at the coast, so packing warm layers like a fleece or jacket is essential. The Mara is a malaria area, so please consult your doctor for advice on prophylaxis. Importantly, flights use small aircraft with a strict luggage limit of 15kg per person in soft-sided bags.

Money, Time & Culture

While our rates are benchmarked in USD, we can provide quotes and accept payments in Kenyan Shillings. Extras at the camps, like premium drinks or souvenirs, can typically be paid for with M-Pesa, KES cash, or credit cards. The experience is a wonderful way to directly support local Maasai communities and conservation initiatives protecting our shared national heritage.

Resident Rates

We are pleased to offer special rates for Kenyan citizens and East African residents. Please mention this when you make your enquiry so we can ensure you get the best possible value.

Vehicle Options

Your game drives are conducted in a 4x4 Land Cruiser. While the package includes shared game drives, we can arrange for an exclusive-use vehicle for your party at a supplemental cost for ultimate flexibility.

Guidance only — confirm visa, entry and health requirements with the official embassy or eVisa portal before you travel.
